We've flown a lot of meat, no dry ice, and have NEVER lost any yet. way too expensive for HI and even 2nd day air is too slow IMO, maybe with dry ice. 2nd Note: frozen meat looks very much like plastic explosive on TSA screens. Anything left will normally fit in your carry-on. Eat some, we always seem to wind up giving some away too. Most deboned elk will fit in three smaller coolers, especially if trimmed well. And you're not dealing with some big clunky expensive cooler it takes two guys to move. Even at $25 for the first two and $100 for the third that's pretty good. For meat 50qt works well and easily under size limits, likely will only be a bit over half full to get to 50 lbs. Meat will age after being frozen, you can age it after thawing as long as you want.

Mine doubles as my scale on my draw board. And pack a scale that's pretty handy to weigh out coolers or what have you for flying. Leaving a bit of elk is usually appreciated. Sometimes we meet up with folks that let us borrow a freezer. I don't believe in freezing deer or elk meat before allowing at least 5 days for the meat to tenderize, so if I use dry ice for the flight home, will that cause the meat closest to the ice to freeze? Unless I harvest an elk early in the 9 day season (say by day 4) and have at least 5 days to let the meat season in coolers at our camp site, I have no interest in freezing the meat or keeping it frozen for the flight home.

Will 200 qt of total capacity be enough to fit a bull in? Will it have to be de-boned? I just bought a 150 qt marine cooler to be loaded on the cargo plane and plan on taking another cooler as my checked luggage (not sure what size, 50 qt maybe? but can't weigh more than 50lbs).
